Palm Care
Watering
Watering depends upon several factors. First and foremost is the type of palm, for example Kentia prefer to be kept moist to dry, whereas Seaforthia and Alexandras prefer to be kept damp. The amount of water also depends upon the time of year, positioning of the palm etc. Please refer to the individual palm specification for it's watering requirements.
Replanting
Do not disturb the roots. Dig the hole big enough to fit the entire root ball in. Make sure the area is free draining, if it is not put scoria or stones approximately 5xm thick in the bottom of the hole to ensure the palms roots are not sitting in water. If the soil around is clay, dig the hole 1/3 bigger than required and use a palm mix or mulch to fill the balance. Keep the palm well watered until it gets established. A good quality mulch will help ensure the plant does not dry out.
Repotting
You do not need to repot your palm until it is well root bound, you can even slow down it's growth by keeping it root bound but make sure you keep it watered and fed, as it is harder to get water into the palm when it is root bound. Do not over pot your palm or you may end up over watering it. Do not disturb the roots and use a quality palm mix.
Fertiliser
To keep your palm looking healthy and to increase growth you need to feed it twice a year in the growing season, which is approximately Oct to March.
